Officials authorize war. Photographers witness it. The media disseminates it. From memory to history, our collective understanding of conflicts abroad passes through many filters. In Fovea Exhibitions' February mounting, photojournalist Anthony Suau's images challenge our assumptions. The Pulitzer Prize-winner captures how events escalate into war, and how both media and politicians influence the writing of history.

During the last two decades, Suau has photographed more than 25 conflicts, from Bucharest to Mexico and from Rwanda to Iraq. On February 14, from 4pm-8pm Fovea will be the first United States gallery to show portions of his one-man show, previously shown in Moscow and Shanghai. The veteran Time Magazine photojournalist holds a gallery talk at 6pm and is available to sign his most recent book, a critical-examination of the American invasion of Iraq. Suau also shares his experiences in a classroom with West Point cadets, young men and women who one day will orchestrate America's involvement overseas.

Founded by Newsweek photo editors, Fovea Exhibitions, located at 143 Main Street in Beacon, brings internationally-renowned photojournalists to Beacon and area schools in conjunction with mounting exhibitions on world and national current events.
